SXSW 2012 Wrap Up From DJ Valida →
This was my second SXSW and you know that Sade song, “it’s never, as good as the first time….” Well, that definitely does not apply to SX. It was a fantastic experience the second time around and I cannot wait for next year! It’s difficult to extract 5 favorite moments, as there were so many, but, these definitely stand out.

A Wrap Up from DJ Anne Litt →
Every year I come back from SXSW happy and exhausted. We tried something a bit different this year with Morning Becomes Eclectic and I hope you enjoyed it. If you missed the shows, they are a must listen, in my not-so-humble opinion. You can hear them both in the archives – Thursday / Friday.

A Wrap Up from Rachel Reynolds →
I’ve been a fan of the former since the very beginning, but this was the moment I became a believer inMumford and Sons, who were undeniably a great live band and even brought out the Austin High marching band for a few songs. It was a triumphant finish to a great trip.

A Wrap Up from DJ Anthony Valadez →
If I can avoid small talk by any means, I will. So I enjoy getting out of the loud environment and just interacting with some these brilliant artists such as Miles Bonny, J Boogie, Electric Wire Hustle, Sonnymoon, The Stepkids, Alice Russell and just talking about life, sound and the creation process. I love hearing these amazing artists talk about their new music, moving to a new city and...

Jason Bentley finds The Best Wurst in Austin TEXAS...
This Austin, Texas street vendor usually peddles between 200 to 250 brats in a night, but when the crowds fill the streets for SXSW he ups the sausage slinging to four times that. Here he dishes on the crowd and the best sellers at his cart, which has been situated on the infamous sixth street for 20 years!

The Boss
Morning Becomes Eclectic Producer Ariana Morgenstern caught up with Bruce Springsteen quite unexpectedly. When asked what in the world she talked about when faced with The Boss, she says she just went straight for “the truth.”
“I told him the truth, that he was the reason I became a US Citizen. He asked where I was from, and I told him Argentina. He said he LOVES Argentina. I...

I was flailing in indecision about taking the entire night off, my friend Jeff Safran saved the day with a recommendation to see the Canadian band Yukon Blonde. You see, as soon as you hear a really good band here at SXSW (and the percentage of those is very small), your spirits are lifted and you’re reminded about why you are here in the first place.

Anthony Valadez eagerly awaits Fiona Apple at SXSW →
Anthony Valdez is what one might call a devoted Fiona Apple fan. Not only did he create a MEGA-Remix of her entire album, Tidal, he’s now waiting as number 8 in line for her 8pm show here at SXSW……. and he’s been there since 4pm.
His Mega-Remix is for, in his own words “a rainy day, the end of a long day, after I dump you, before you dump me, while stuck in traffic,...

There is always a “moment” at SXSW. A second of per music heaven when you realize why you are always so excited to be in Austin this time of year, despite how much work it takes to get here. I had TWO of those moments yesterday (Wednesday), both at KCRW’s own showcases, thanks to the Alabama Shakes and Band of Skulls.

My first show of the day was the unlikely combo of weirdo funk performed in the bar of a pretty nice hotel. The patrons at times looked a bit frightened, but mostly amused. The band was a force to be reckoned with, called Spirit Animal. More on the KCRW Music Blog.

Jason Bentley on Why Austin Is Worth The Trip
KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis looks at what compels bands to make the trip to Austin for the SXSW festival each year.
Take a listen, he speaks about this with KCRW music director Jason Bentley, SXSW Creative Director Brent Grulke, and also Moheak Radio program director TK, who this year organized the LAxLA festival as an opportunity for those bands that couldn’t make the haul.
